Nimblecast Delivers Live Broadcast for Southampton FC’s FA Youth Cup Victory

On February 3, 2025, Nimblecast proudly provided a seamless live broadcast stream for Southampton FC’s FA Youth Cup clash against Derby County. The Saints put on a stellar performance, securing a commanding 4-1 victory at St Mary's Stadium and advancing to the competition’s quarter-finals.

Our team deployed several cameras to St Mary's Stadium, ensuring comprehensive coverage. Using a combination of LiveU cellular transmitters and ethernet connection, we transmitted high-quality feeds to our remote production facility. There, the feeds were decoded and synced for both vision and audio, guaranteeing a professional final product.

The heart of our workflow revolves around a robust SDI-based infrastructure. All incoming feeds are routed into a physical mixer, where they are cut into a cohesive program feed. This approach provides a crucial advantage: in the event of a computer failure, our physical redundancy ensures an uninterrupted broadcast setting Nimblecast apart from the competition.

A graphics package, from Ligr , was integrated into the mixer with alpha channels, while replays were fed through SDI and audio mixed in via XLR. This program feed was then output to our Haivision Makito encoder, ensuring a smooth, high-quality stream for online distribution.

To elevate the viewer experience, our on-site commentator, Ian Wilding, received the program return feed to an on-site monitor, allowing him to stay fully immersed in the game. This enabled Ian not only to deliver insightful analysis from the venue but also to see replays, graphics, and other key elements in real-time.

Nimblecast delivered both clean and dirty feeds, complete with six channels of audio. These outputs can be tailored to meet the specific needs of our partners, with the Southampton FC broadcast being streamed live on the Saints App, reaching thousands of fans.

By blending cutting-edge technology with meticulous planning, Nimblecast continues to push the boundaries of live sports broadcasting.
